Whinlatter Forest Park is an ideal venue for all sorts of outdoor activities. There are walking and orienteering routes, and the more energetic can walk through the forest and out onto the surrounding fells. Or bring your bicycle and cycle on the traffic free forest roads - provided you don't mind the hills!

The forest also provides excellent opportunities for photography, sketching and painting, botany, or bird watching. Of particular interest to birdwatchers are the Bassenthwaite Ospreys, which have nested on Bassenthwaite Lake since 2001. The award-winning Lake District Osprey Project provides viewing facilities for these magnificent birds at Whinlatter on the giant screens with up close and personal images of the nest. Nearby, Dodd Wood view point offers fantastic panoramic views of the birds natural environment where you may be lucky enough to see them catching fish on the lake, during the breeding season, April to the end of August.

At Whinlatter children are also catered for too, the gigantic walk in badger sett , the Rabbit Run and Fox Trot trails and the adventure playground will keep them entertained for ages. Supporting your visit to Whinlatter, the Visitor Centre includes an attractive gift shop and Siskins café.

Opening hours: 10am - 5pm daily in summer and 10am - 4pm daily in winter. Closed Christmas and New Year.
