Sawyers Arms is situated in the heart of the popular town of Stricklandgate in Kendal. Stricklandgate is a fine spot for an afternoons browsing, with a well pedestrianised market place and range of quaint shops. Sawyers Arms sits in the centre of this pleasant town and is renowned locally and further afield for its hospitality, well kept ales and quality accommodation. This historic building dates back to the late 18th century, when it used to be a former coaching inn.

Sawyers Arms still today provides a restful night's sleep for weary travellers in one of the 8 en-suite bedrooms on offer. There is a good range of sizes to choose from to suit all needs, couples or families and the tariff includes a hearty full English breakfast in the guests' dining room which is guaranteed to keep even the most ambitious rambler going throughout the day. Unlike most bed and breakfast accommodation however, there is also the option of taking a smoking room - welcome news to some.

Gill and Norman Walber have been running Sawyers Arms for 3 years now, and their knack for creating a friendly and comfy environment has served them well over that time. Gill's local knowledge, born and bred in the area, ensures that this establishment is popular with not just locals but is constantly revisited by tourists and business men.

Open all day everyday this inn offers only food to its residents but prides itself on offering a good selection for its drinkers all year round. The most popular drink here is Carling Lager, but for those ale lovers Hartleys XB is regularly on tap with the occasional guest ale following from the Robinsons Brewery nearby. The bar also offers a wide range of spirits in a comforting wood panelled den, with large windows offering a pleasant view of the Stricklandgate roads.

Each week Gill and Norman take the atmosphere up a notch with a disco or live music on a Saturday evening from 9pm to get the musical juices flowing, and a weekly Sunday night quiz welcoming all from 9pm also, making this a perfect stop for a memorable insight into rural town life in Cumbria, or simply a quiet base for exploring the stunning countryside further afield.
