The village of Morland is in some spectacular surroundings, set in the heart of the Eden Valley, the scenery around creates some great walks and days out. For that well earned break, The Crown Inn offers tasty food for the hungry and delicious ales for the thirsty. Morland can be found just of the A66 or the A6 close to Penrith; originally the Saxon capital of the Kingdom of Cumbria, Penrith boasts several impressive buildings and monuments to that bygone era.In this day and age, a pub which has no ties to a brewery is a rare place and The Crown Inn does not disappoint. Shaun Brennand has owned and personally run this free house for the past four years now and the establishment has gone from strength to strength in his capable hands. From the exterior, the Crown Inn looks warm and cosy, the stone built building decorated with colourful hanging baskets and planter pots outside the entrance. Inside the décor is convivial and welcoming with knick knacks adorning the shelves and pictures of days gone by on the walls to look at. The dining area is lit by a large bay window and the whole pub is light and airy. Supporting the already large dining area is a patio outside for those balmy summer evenings, it is perfect for enjoying a nice pint; The Crown Inn has two real ales on offer, Deuchars and a rotating guest ale.A major draw to this great pub is the food, served Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings and during the afternoon; 12 noon to 2 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The menu specialises in classic British pub fare, taking the popular favourites and cooking them extremely well, using local produce where possible. Examples of this sumptuous menu are the local Cumberland sausage served with egg, onion rings, home made chips, salad, vegetables and coleslaw, deep fried camembert served with a redcurrant jelly and the 16oz gammon steak served with egg, pineapple and onion rings. The pub also put on special nights, steak nights are always popular and there are also occasional special offers; 2 courses for a cut price for example. The Crown Inn does schedule entertainment, live music etc, for more details, please contact the pub. |
