Located in the heart of this historic town, The Cavendish Arms at Cartmel is a picturesque establishment which dates back to the 15th century. Full of charm and character, the inn has retained many original features, including the low-beamed ceilings, a wealth of antique furniture, a blazing log fire - and creaky floorboards! The Cavendish is much more than a Lake District hotel, but rather a charming retreat with a fine restaurant serving excellent British food using the finest of local produce. Excellent wines and traditional beers and ales presented with friendly relaxed service, together with some very comfortable rooms, ensures that you will find yourself drifting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life into Cartmel's perfectly laid back village way of life.In the kitchen, the staff have gone to great lengths to try and use only local produce and suppliers, thus ensuring that quality is always of a very high standard. So among the main courses you will find Cumbrian rib-eye steak, whole sea bass with a Morecambe Bay shrimp vinaigrette, and Cartmel Valley venison steak with a Cumberland sauce. Amongst the lighter meals are grilled Cumberland sausage and locally smoked duck breast with a raspberry vinaigrette. To accompany your meal, the bar offers a wide choice that includes 4 real ales - Cumberland Ale is the regular brew, plus 3 rotating guest ales from both local and national breweries. The accommodation at the Cavendish comprises 10 en suite rooms, including one with a four poster bed. Guests enjoy the quaint low beamed ceilings and uneven floors, and there's even it is said a resident ghost. Tea and coffee and television facilities are provided in all the rooms. If you're walking in the Lake District or simply looking for a bed and breakfast, the Cavendish Arms offers that personal and special accommodation. The area is teeming with outdoor activities. Apart from walking, there is horse riding, Cartmel races, Lake Windermere, a car museum and more. The hotel has teamed up with Black Horses Ltd to offer carriage tours of the village from just £45. If the Lake District weather has not favoured your camping or holiday cottage break, then come and unwind in these pleasant welcoming surroundings. |
