Brigsteer is a tiny village in the shadow of Scout Scar, 3 miles from Kendal and 5 miles from Junction 36 of the M6, west of the A591 or north from the A590 via Levens. The building that houses The Wheatsheaf has been an integral part of the local community for almost 250 years. Before becoming licensed in the early part of the 19th century, the Wheatsheaf consisted of three cottages and a shoeing room for horses. It was once the starting point of the local hunts and the inside walls are adorned with pictures of the hunting days.

Now sympathetically modernised whilst retaining its traditional charm, it is owned and run by Lee Rowbotham and his family and is a great place to visit, whether it's for a drink, a snack or a full meal. It is even a brilliant base from which to explore the surrounding beauty that is the Lake District. For guests who choose to stay, there are 3 luxuriously appointed en suite rooms for Bed & Breakfast.

In a village that is centrally located yet peaceful and relaxing, the Wheatsheaf is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the surroundings, or to explore the many and varied attractions, both scenic and historic, that the region has to offer. These include Lake Windermere, Kendal, Latterbarrow Wildlife Reserve, Whitbarrow, Levens Hall and the National Trust's Sizergh Castle.

Lee is very proud of what the Lake District has to offer, and this shines through in the menu, as much of the menu as possible is sourced from local suppliers. The food available is classically British with a contemporary twist, using seasonal meat, game and poultry, daily delivered fresh fish and seafood for the à la carte menus. Examples of this delicious menu include roast chump of lamb with garlic mash, carved loin of Holker venison with confit potato and pan-roasted duck breast with a plum jus. The bar is open from 12 pm to 3 pm and from 6 pm to 11 pm, and food is served anywhere in the open plan ground floor from 12 pm to 2 pm and between 6 pm and 9 pm. The bar is well stocked and two locally brewed real ales are always available.
