The Victoria Hotel is a family run country hotel with a warm and welcoming atmosphere from the moment you enter. Situated in the village of Drigg on the west Cumbria coast, the Vic, as it is known locally, was built in about 1885 to service the Furness railway which still runs along the coast from Barrow-in-Furness to Carlisle. Drigg is known for its sand dunes which form, what is believed to be, the largest nesting sites in Europe for black headed Gulls and is also a sanctuary for rare Natterjack toads. Tenants Sandra and Peter are Cumbrian born and bred and took over at the Victoria in 2008. While this is their first venture into licensing, they have been in the catering industry for nearly 20 years.

The Victoria was extensively renovated in 2006 and features six quality en suite rooms, all with digital colour televisions and tea & coffee making facilities. The hotel is named for Queen Victoria and in keeping with this tradition, the rooms are all named after her children: Leopold, Louise, Alice, Beatrice, Edward and Alfred. The room rates are very reasonable, the doubles are £40 a night and the family room just £52 a night. The tariff includes a hearty English breakfast in the mornings.

The hotel also features a very popular restaurant which offers good traditional home cooked food made to order on the premises. Sandra cooks alongside an employed chef using food sourced from local suppliers. For example, the meat is sourced from Wilson's Butchers of Egremont and the delicious ice cream is supplied from Hartley's of Egremont. Favourite dishes include the sumptuous steaks from Victoria's Grill and the local Cumberland sausage; the home made pies are extremely popular as well. The menu also features a variety of all day breakfasts, fish dishes, a vegetarian selection and a range of sandwiches. The restaurant is open for service from 12 pm to 2 pm and 6 pm to 9 pm all week long and there is a sample menu available on the excellent website.

The bar is open every afternoon and evening session and all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The bar is very well stocked and features 2 real ales, Jennings Bitter and a rotating guest ale. Once a fortnight there is a quiz on Friday night from 9 pm and all are welcome to participate.
