The family run Red Lion Inn is situated centrally in the charming village of Hawkshead it dates back to the 15th century when it used to be a coaching Inn, making it the oldest pub in Hawkshead. Experience licencees Paul and Lynn and their son Jake extend a cheerful and relaxed atmosphere to all their guests, warning that a sense of humour is a must! Joking aside however, the Red Lion Inn has gone from strength to strength under their management, regaining the Lion's reputation for quality in every aspect, receiving high recommendations from the locals. The oak panelled bar complete with working traditional fireplace offers 4 real Cumbrian cask ales, with a wide range of wines and spirits and serves locally sourced food Mon-Sat 12-2.30pm/6-9pm, and Sunday 12-8pm when a succulent Lakeland roast is served with a choice of beef, pork or turkey. Dishes available include a trio of Cumberland sausage and mash with onion gravy, Homemade steak and Cumbrian ale pie served with potatoes, fresh vegetables and gravy, or a choice of tasty sandwiches including hand carved Lakeland ham with red onion chutney for smaller appetites. Children's menus are available or half portions from the main menu or specials board can be made. All credit cards are accepted except Diners. Open all day every day, except winter Mondays (open from 3pm onwards).Guest accommodation at the Red Lion is available all year round, each of the 8 en suite rooms has its own distinct character retaining many charming original features from their days as a coaching Inn such as oak beams, uneven floors and sloping ceilings.Paul and Lynn are also eager to ensure that a stay at the Red Lion means a memorable trip to the Lake District so keep much up to date information on what there is to see and do in the surrounding areas. They offer informal and insightful information about local history, tourist attractions and the surprising literary history of the Lakes. They feel that they are really `living the dream' at the Red Lion and want all those visiting to feel at home too so they invite everyone and their dogs(!) to pull up a bar stool and join in the banter. |
