The White Lion Inn has a tradition of hospitality that dates back over two centuries. It enjoys a peaceful setting in scenic Patterdale at the edge of Ullswater on the sweeping road leading to the Kirkstone Pass, the Lake District's highest pass open to motor traffic, offering breathtaking views for miles around. Visitors and their dogs are assured of the warmest welcomes from owner Rita Dawes and licensee-managers Alastair and Mandy Howard-Carter.They provide an extensive menu sampling traditional light snacks and lunches, seasonal fish dishes and a choice of hearty dishes including Beef in Guiness, an 8oz sirloin steak simmered in rich Guinness sauce with onions, mushrooms and peppers served with peas, Lamb Henry or Mediterranean Vegetable Risotto delicately flavoured with white wine, herbs and sun-drenched tomatoes. Food is served from 12-9pm, sandwiches and breakfasts are served until 6pm. The bar is open all day every day also offering two real ales, one from the Cumbrian Tirril Brewery and a rotating guest ale.The White Lion Inn also offers seven guest bedrooms, five ensuite, the others with private bathrooms, which provide a quiet comfortable base for a relaxing break away in the beauty of the Lake District. |
