The Ship Inn is a traditional country inn standing half a mile south of Coniston in Bowmanstead. Set in a scenic location, looking down to Coniston Lake, this quaint property was built in the late 17th century and was once a popular venue for drovers.

Today the property is just as popular and having been run by the same tenants Graham and Nicola Belcher for the past 4 years, the couple have retained the buildings fine period appeal, whilst also providing all the modern comforts, which are demanded by today's visitors.

The Ship Inn provides a great base for those touring the region or just wanting to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. With 4 guest bedrooms on offer, 3 doubles and one single, visitors can let the rooms on a bed and breakfast basis, for as little or as long as they require.

The building on the whole is extremely inviting, visited by many locals and visitors from further afield. The exterior of the property is bright and vibrant, with floral displays decking the façade in spring and summer- so fantastic in fact that the inn has won awards. The bar area is a delightfully relaxed and civilised space for meeting friends or making new ones over a glass or two of the real ales on offer, including Hartleys XB or Cumbria Way.

Traditional pub meals are served here daily from 12-2 and 6-8.45 (from 5.30 in high season). Meals range from family favourites such as Whitby scampi, home cooked steak and ale pie, lasagne and sirloin steak to more refined dishes of duck breast in an orange sauce, supreme of chicken in stilton and leek sauce and salmon and broccoli fishcakes and prawns with a sweet chilli dip. Always keeping in with a pub style, most of the dishes are served with chips, new or jacket potatoes and a lovely selection of vegetables, salad or coleslaw. If you are after something a little lighter, there is a lunchtime only menu, which features a large selection of sandwiches and baked jacket potatoes or even just a bowl of chips.

The Inn is closed Monday and Tuesday between November and March except during Christmas week, otherwise open daily and all day on bank holidays and school holiday weekends.
