An impressive one hundred and thirty seven year old Lakeland Victorian building in the heart of the picturesque village of Grasmere, Oak Bank Hotel is the perfect place to stay for a relaxing break, romantic weekend, or Lakeland holiday. Commissioned as a private residence in 1872, it has been a hotel since the 1920s, and has been run at the finest quality by owners Simon and Glynis since April 2007.The accommodation ranges through the 14 high-quality rooms, from the very reasonably priced to the highest standard in luxury, to ensure the needs of all guests are catered for. The light and spacious top range rooms are the Acorn Suite with a separate lounge area and a Jacuzzi, situated on the ground floor and the Iris Room with a four-poster bed and a balcony looking out over the gardens, river and fells. Choose dinner, bed and breakfast so you can really relax and soak in the hotels atmosphere and explore the surrounding countryside during your stay. The restaurant is an elegant and intimate affair, seating just 30, which adds to the cosy atmosphere. There is a conservatory in-keeping with the hotels Victorian style, which looks out over the garden and, for the winter, wonderfully welcome open fires. The real heart however is in the fine food, which is lovingly prepared, seasonal and sourced where possible from within the county. The four course dinner menu changes daily, so you are assured of always being served the freshest and best produce, at the height of its seasonal abundance and is served between 6:30pm and 8:00pm.Examples from the menu are Ballontine of Organic Salmon with Perigord truffle dressing, fromage blanc, pickled cucumber and sorrel; Oven Roasted Goosnargh Corn Fed Chicken, with grilled polenta, crispy lardons, braised shallots and sage infused liquor; and Oak Bank's Sticky Toffee Pudding, with caramel toffee sauce and vanilla ice-cream.There is also an excellent range of fine wines to complement your meal perfectly. This really is the finest quality pampering food, and at very reasonable prices. There is off-road parking for guests, so you can completely unwind during your stay, without the concerns of parking and car safety. |
