In the heart of pretty Hawkshead, a stones throw from Esthwaite Water, close to Windermere and Coniston Water, lies The Queens Head Hotel, an impressive early 17th century black and white building. The beautifully traditional façade of the hotel is reflected inside as well, in the cosy bar with flag floors, oak beams and roaring fireplaces, splendid accommodation (including some impressive four-poster rooms) and fine food, which has been consistently upheld by the owners Mr and Mrs Merrick for 21 years. There is a real respect and appreciation for the surrounding lakes, forests and fells, so this is why you will find so much of the meats, fish and seafoods served at The Queens Head Hotel are seasonal, locally sourced and sustainable, to avoid any impact on this most beautiful part of England's countryside.

With this peace of mind you are free to enjoy the many delicious delicacies on offer; from the best Cumbrian Fell fed rib eye steak, served with Lancashire blue cheese mash potatoes, beer batter onion rings and red wine jus to the extensive vegetarian menu including tasty delights like the Wild Mushroom and English Asparagus Risotto, with truffle oil and parmesan shavings. They have held 1 Rosette for excellence in food for the last 7 years, and it shows in the pride of quality in their menu. In addition to this menu you can enjoy a great range of 4 real ales: Cumbria Way, Double Hop, Unicorn, plus seasonal guest ale, all from Robinsons Brewery. Food is served Mon-Sat 12-2:30pm and 6:15-9:30pm, Sun 12-5pm, and as you would expect with such an impressive menu, it is advisable to book in advance, particularly in the summer months.

Also, with an AA 2star hotel rating 75%, is their accommodation, which has a range to satisfy whatever your break requires. Be it their elegant four-poster rooms, colourful contemporary rooms (all with private bathrooms), or the self-catering cottage or studio apartment, the biggest of which sleeps four, perfect for weekend breaks. The rooms can come with a choice of Dinner-Bed-Breakfast, as well as Bed-Breakfast, so you can really relax and enjoy all The Queens Head Hotel has to offer. Although not connected to the building, you can order food from the hotel to the self-catering premises if you are tired from a day soaking in the wonderful scenery.
