Nestling in the heart of Grizedale Forest, just a short drive west of Lake Windermere is the Eagles Head, boasting a truly picturesque location. Rob and Rebecca Bruce along with their Head chef Bobby McGuire have a real success on their hands with this charming establishment which has the best of facilities in all departments. Starting life in the 16th Century as a farmhouse with an attached barn, it has been refurbished and modernised through the years while still retaining its traditional charm and warmth. Rob and Rebecca are superb hosts welcoming all with a smile into the cosy interior where guests have a fine choice of real ales on tap, including two "brewed" especially for the pub, Eagles Head (4%abv) and GrizedAle (4.8%).

The cuisine served here is second to none and has gained an excellent reputation in the area. With generous portions at reasonable prices throughout, a quality specials board and an impressive children's menu, this place speaks for itself and is hard to beat.

Talented chef Bobby uses meats and other produce from local suppliers and always cooks his dishes to order thus assuring freshness and bringing their true flavours to the fore. The stunning menu offers an excellent array of starters, main courses and desserts and includes a range of tasty vegetarian options. Special dietary needs can be catered for, given notice and Chef can adapt some dishes to cope with gluten or dairy free needs. Among the `Eagles' most celebrated dishes are the homemade pies(which people travel miles for), the stuffed chicken and seasonal fish dishes. As mentioned, look out also for their `specials' board, which extends their excellent food offer even further.

The lunchtime menu sees a variety of tasty lighter meals, freshly cut sandwiches and hearty soups. Booking is advised to avoid disappointment. There is a fine adjacent beer garden, with plenty of seating for those warmer summer days and evenings. Food is served from 12- 2.30pm and 7 -8.30pm Tues/Sun. No food is served on Mondays except for Bank holidays and school holidays. The quality of the cuisine and the ale here is superb and visitors to this part of the country would be foolish not to pay a visit.
