Starting life as a row of cottages, The Stan Laurel Inn is a delightful hostelry named after Ulverston's most famous son. Delightful owners, Trudi and Paul Dewar took over this quaint inn in April 2007 and over the last two years have stamped their personalities on the place winning an ever growing following among both locals and visitors to this lovely part of the world. Since then, they have created a superb rear dining room seating 20 which displays numerous photos and ornaments of the man himself - Stan Laurel. The cheerful bar offers no less than six real ales on tap with Thwaites being the regular and three ales coming from breweries within Cumbria.

Paul is a first class chef and has gained countless recommendations from local B&B's for the quality of his dishes. He uses local produce in his kitchen whenever possible and offers regular special meal deals throughout the week. Tantalising Tuesday and Wonderful Wednesday offers Two for One on all main meals throughout lunch time and the evening. Fridays deal sees fish for a fiver - served with chunky chips and mushy peas. Due to this popularity it is advisable to book at all times to avoid disappointment. The printed menu is always complemented with further choices on the specials board. Typical starters on the printed menu include platter of prawns, battered brie wedges and pork, chicken & apricot terrine-made by Paul's fair hand.

The delicious main courses are endless and from the grill include Sirloin steak served with mushrooms, onion rings and grilled tomato, Chicken Jim Jam-grilled chicken wrapped in bacon and topped with pineapple then smothered in BBQ sauce. Old favourites include house chicken curry, steak pie, chicken pepperpot and salmon and broccoli bake. Vegetarians will be delighted with options such as vegetable lasagne, veggie chilli stack and cheese and broccoli bake. For lighter appetites there is a range of freshly cut sandwiches, baguettes, and fabulous jacket potatoes not forgetting the tremendous salad selection which offers everything imaginable. Food is served Tues-Sat 12-2pm & 6-9pm and on Sundays 12-8pm.

The Stan Laurel is an ideal base for touring the area and offers accommodation comprising of three en-suite guest rooms varying in size.
