Situated in the Square in the historic village of Cartmel is The Royal Oak Inn where the warmest of welcomes is guaranteed. Visitors from out of town as well as locals flock here to sample the best in well kept ales along with delicious, wholesome cuisine. This wonderfully quaint old fashioned inn is the first venture into the trade for friendly licensees, Darren and Louise Allcock. They have started as they mean to go on, making sure that all guests have an enjoyable visit whether they are just simply popping in for a drink and a bite to eat or staying overnight in one of the four en-suite bedrooms. The cosy bedrooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated, varying in size to suit guests needs. For all the B&B guests, a full Cumbrian breakfast starts the day off perfectly. The interior of the inn is beautifully decorated and furnished with cosy fires, brass-adorned beams and comfy seating, creating a wonderful homely ambience in which to meet friends and relax.

Darren and Louise always have a great selection of Award winning draught ales including Timothy Taylor, Coniston Bluebird, Black Sheep, Hawkshead Green, Speckled Hen, Aviator and Melbreak along with a wide selection of lakeland ales.

Continuing the high standards is the traditional British cuisine served at the Royal Oak, always fresh, and prepared to the highest standards available every day. Diners can choose from a wide variety of Pub favourites and desserts with a Bar menu available for those with a smaller appetite. The lunch menu includes sandwiches filled with pan fried steak, mushrooms and caramelised onions, freshly baked jacket potatoes as well as main courses such as Homemade steak, mushroom and ale pie. The evening menu offers further delights with starters such as black pudding served on a bed of mashed potato topped with a poached egg. Main courses include slow roasted local shoulder of lamb, Cumberland sausage and grilled smoked haddock. For those with a sweeter tooth, the desserts are sure to satisfy with tempting choices such as sticky toffee pudding, chocolate fudge cake and Belgian toffee waffle.

The hidden gem of this super inn is the eye-catching rear riverside garden, secluded and well kept offering a pleasant retreat on warmer days.

The Royal Oak is only a 5 minute walk from Cartmel Racecourse, with meetings all year round this is an ideal weekend destination.
