The George Hotel stands in the picturesque village of Orton, to be found where the B6260 meets the B6261 and just a short drive from junction 38 on the M6. Located in the heart of the beautiful Eden Valley, it is the perfect place from which to explore the whole of the stunning Lake District and Cumbria. This impressive establishment has been personally run by Marc and April since the beginning of the year. With sheer hard work, determination and heaps of enthusiasm, this talented young couple are putting The George back on the map and bringing plenty of life and character back into the place. It is open every session during the winter and all day, every day in the summer months with a choice of three real ales to choose from, Cumberland the regular plus two rotating guest ales.

Good food is always an attraction and it's certainly the case here. Marc has sixteen years experience as a chef and people are flocking back to the George to sample his superb cuisine which is served everyday 12-3pm & 6-9pm. To tantalise the tastebuds, the starters menu includes Garlic mushrooms, Thai chilli prawns and Hot wings served with a sour cream dip to extinguish the fire! Main courses include Marc's renowned steak and ale pie, Cumberland sausage, sirloin steak and an ever changing fish of the week. Vegetarian choices include mushroom stroganoff and vegetable jalfrezi . Children are made very welcome and can choose from their own menu or have a small portion from the main menu choices. Booking is advisable from Thursday through to Sunday.

The George Hotel's accommodation consists of eight upstairs rooms. Six are ensuite with the remaining two rooms sharing a bathroom which has a Jacuzzi. Guests are welcome to come on Bed and Breakfast only or Dinner, bed and Breakfast. During the winter, special rates are offered so please ring for details. All major credit cards are accepted except A/Express and Diners.
