For lovers of great music and well kept ales, Dickie Doodles is the place to head for. Open every evening from 8 till late, it is home to a multitude of musical talent covering many areas of the modern music spectrum with performers ranging from talented amateurs to well-known professionals. Behind this successful venture is friendly owner Shaun Bainbridge. He took over the empty premises in 1999 and finally realised his dream, transforming the place into a live music venue that is open seven nights a week.

The week unfolds as follows:

Monday: Acoustic jamming

Tuesday: Electric jamming

Wednesday: Folk session (jamming)

Thursday: New and up-and-coming bands

Friday and Saturday: Professional rock bands

Entrance (over 18's only) is free, and drinks (cash only) include a good choice of draught and bottled beers, lagers and cider. From August real ales will be available from Cumbrian breweries. There is certainly something here for everyone's taste. Snacks such as Chilli & chips/rice are available from 10pm Thurs/Fri/Sat.

Dickie Doodles also shows arts and crafts exhibitions showcasing the work of talented local artist amd makers. These change every two months so ring for details. Shaun is a blacksmith by trade and some of his forgework is also on display.

Stricklandgate is one of the busy narrow streets at the heart of old Kendal, and the yards (alleyways) are a distinctive feature of the town. In times past, these were a line of defence against the constant threat of marauding Scots and could be sealed off by closing the single small entrance, keeping families and their livestock safe inside. The Scottish threat has long since abated, and now tourists from around the world come in peace to Kendal throughout the year. For music lovers visiting this area, a visit to Dickie Doodles is a must!
