The Sandford Arms is a superb conversion of 18th century farm buildings into a beautiful residential inn, lounge and restaurant. Located in a picturesque and pleasant location, just a mile or so off the A66 in a charming village by the River Eden, this country inn provides splendid food, drink and guest accommodation.Owned and run by hosts Stephen and Nicola Porter for the last 3 years, the couple have a combined experience in the trade of 18 years and their hospitality and knowledge of what visitors want is 100%. The Sandford Arms has a warm and friendly atmosphere, heightened by the endless rapport that the hosts build with their visitors and the relaxing and traditional décor of the building, including the local stonework and the profusion of oak beams, only makes the visit more enjoyable. The property, which is enjoyed by both locals and visitors alike often enjoy one of the 3 real ales on offer, black sheep being the regular plus rotating guest ales from either the Tirril Brewey or the Hesket Brewery, which are both in Cumbria. Food is also enjoyed daily from between 11.30am-2.30pm and 6pm-8.45pm. All the produce used is from local suppliers, wherever possible and the ingredients are used to produce many dishes, including the Chef's specials of minted lamb henry, Sandford chicken, homemade lasagne and local pork fillet and black pudding. There is also a fantastic menu, suitable for vegetarians, which sees stuffed aubergines, vegetable balti, mushroom and red pepper stroganoff and a lovely selection of freshly prepared salads, such as blue Wensleydale cheese and smoked bacon and salmon and prawn. There are in addition plenty of starters, side orders and a menu dedicated to children, with all of their favourites in tow.The Sandford Arms has 3 ensuite bedrooms available to hire throughout the year and each room offers real comfort, tasteful furnishings and good value for money. With the rooms offering views across the meadows towards the romantically named fells, "Roman Fell" and "Murton Pike", this accommodation is great for a relaxing and unwinding getaway. The tariff is reasonable with prices ranging from £42.50 for a single room to a double or twin being £65. There are great rates for the family rooms, as well as special rates on offer for a weeks stay. |
