Set in the main square of the busy market town of Appleby lies the splendidly traditional and charming Tufton Arms Hotel. Appleby is regarded as the jewel of the northwest towns and this small, intimate and luxurious hotel in Cumbria, does not let this statement down.

The Tufton Arms Hotel started life in the 16th century as a coaching inn and is now a grade II listed building, which was rebuilt in Victorian times with tall ceilings and grand features, creating a sense of space and elegance. The building keeps in with the Victorian era, which can be seen in the interior of the building. Attractive patterned wallpapers, engravings and prints, heavy drapes and old fireplaces are combined with contemporary fabrics, soft muted tones and modern lighting in order to create a sophisticated yet classic look, which is calming, enabling you to unwind and enjoy the wonderful surroundings.

The Milsom family have been the owners here for many years and provide a relaxing destination for an enjoyable break in the heart of the beautiful Eden Valley. Guests are welcomed upon their arrival by hospitable staff, who genuinely want to help make the stay a memorable one.

There are 22 ensuite bedrooms available, all beautifully decorated tastefully in a traditional style, with a contemporary flair. Each room has its own charm and character, with furnishings that include the occasional antique piece from the Milsom farmhouse.

After great hospitality, food and drink is at the top of the list. The award winning team of Chefs seek out the best and freshest local produce in order to prepare spectacular meals, once again traditional but with a modern twist. The menu consists of seared tuna steak, roast rack of Eden Valley lamb, pan fried breast of chicken and a scrumptious homemade steak and ale pie. There is also a specials menu with favourites, enjoyed by all and desserts that have something to tempt even the sweetest tooth. All of these meals are served in the elegant conservatory restaurant, overlooking the cobbled mews courtyard, which may remind you of times gone by.
