House Of Meg Tea Rooms is an outstanding tearoom situated at Gilsland, close to Hadrian's wall. The building is homely, with top quality décor and furnishings, oozing class and ultimate comfort.Formerly an alehouse run by the historic Margaret Teesdale and with an ill repute, the property has a very different atmosphere today. The business, which is now named after Meg, a recluse that once lived on the moors in the area is now anything but lonely. There is an array of sofas to slump in, unwind and enjoy a brew or a bite to eat with friends and family.Owned and run by Andrew Keen for the last 2˝ years, Andrew was born and bred in the village and has 8 previous years experience in the trade. He entices visitors and locals with a lovely selection of paninis, all day breakfasts, baguettes and jacket potatoes as well as offering hot and cold beverages, with hot chocolate, served with cream and marshmallows being a favourite. There is also a wonderful array of scrumptious cakes on offer on the specials menu, changing daily. |
