The outstanding and picturesque Screes Inn stands in the stunning post card location of Nether Wasdale. Found just off the main A595, it's just a stone's throw from the famous Wastwater Lake and Scafell Pike.

A former Temperance hotel, becoming a country inn back in the early 1960's, this property is stunning. Traditional and charming, this business has plenty of character, which draws visitors from far and wide. Tenants Karen and Speedy have only been here since the start of 2009 but already they're getting a reputation for quality hospitality and fine facilities. Karen has been in the trade in Ireland for 10 years prior to this venture and her partner Speedy is still a local fireman, bringing some intrigue and conversation in to the building.

Open all day, everyday there is a great selection of beverages on offer, including 4 real ales, which are all from the Robinson's brewery range. They include hatters, dizzy blonde and double hop, as well as a rotating guest ale.

The food is also splendid here, with something to offer those with a wide variety of differing tastes. The Chef is a vegetarian, so there is a great selection of quality vegetarian dishes always available, including goats cheese strudel with roast parsnips, celeriac and leek and apple, which is served with a white wine and mustard sauce, Screes vegetarian chilli and a splendid spinach, sweet potato and coconut curry. For those who enjoy meat dishes there is a stunning menu of Gill Unsworth's home baked steak and kidney pie, marinated shoulder of local lamb, grilled fillet of salmon with a fresh herb butter and home made lasagne. As well as this there is also tagliatelle with a creamy mushroom pesto sauce with an option of smoked salmon or smoked crispy bacon and a fabulous dessert menu, with homemade sticky toffee pudding, bread and butter pudding and a scrumptious hot chocolate fudge cake.

The Screes Inn has everything, including accommodation. There are currently 5 ensuite bedrooms available to hire all year around, each of which are comfortable and are available in a variety of sizes. The tariff is competitive and ranges from £43 per night for a single up to £80 per night for a family. The tariff includes a hearty breakfast, fit for a king.
