When the Midland & Great Northern Joint Railway was extended from Holt to Sheringham and Cromer in 1887, it gave birth to the tourist industry in North Norfolk. Over a hundred years later, much remains the same. The views of coast and country are as breathtaking as ever. Poppies still flaunt their scarlet beauty every summer. And the Poppy Line, successor to the M&GN, carries thousands of visitors each year on one of the most scenic steam heritage railways in Britain - a 5.5 mile trip from Sheringham along the coast to Weybourne and up through the heathland to Holt.
