Set at the top of the Roman river valley, and looking out over what is said to be some of the best scenery in Essex, The Whalebone Inn provides more than just an excellent meal. Just minutes from Colchester and Fingringhoe Nature Reserve, this grade II listed building also has a converted barn on the site which plays host to functions of all sizes and types. The building makes a good first impression as you arrive, clean and tidy, there are several flower pots and boxes dotted around the front and in the large beer garden. Looking out over the Roman river valley, the garden is a great place to set a marquee for a function or simply enjoy a quiet pint.Inside the open fireplace, exposed beams and wooden floors create a feeling of opulence and style as you recline in the leather sofas and admire the sculptures and artwork. The emphasis here is on quality food, created using the finest of locally sourced produce and cooked fresh to order, the menu packed full of delicious dishes. To accompany the food is a superb wine list, featuring great wines from Europe and the New World. |
