Maldon has the distinction of being the second oldest town in England, this port plays host to, among other things, the mud race, the world's heaviest man and a winter torchlight carnival! Providing excellent home cooked food and snacks for the many visitors is The Hot Plate Café. Ideally situated on the high street, this café is ably run by Wendy and Chris and welcomes everybody; children, locals and tourists alike. Newly opened, the contemporary décor incorporates traditional beams and a brick construction fireplace to create a modern, bright and airy feel to the place. The grade II listed building boasts a glass frosted shop front which creates a great spot to sit a while and watch the world drift past as you enjoy a home made snack.The food is all made fresh to order using the best of locally sourced produce and the menu is full of goodies. Popular favourites include the wonderful home made shepherds' pie, bread and butter pudding and the all day breakfasts. The café is open for breakfast and lunch all week long, between 8 am and 4 pm. |
