There are few public access observatories in Britain; the Norman Lockyer Observatory has a planetarium and large telescopes, including those used to discover helium and establish the sciences of astrophysics. Lockyer's achievements include the establishment of meteorology, astro- archaeology, the science journal, Nature, the Science Museum and government departments for Science and Education. The radio station commemorates the contribution of Sir Ambrose Fleming, a local hero, to the invention of the radio valve. Programme of public events available on the website above. |
