Located in an attractive listed building in the heart of the historic town of Clare, Blue Dog is a superb independent shop selling a carefully selected collection of contemporary homeware, accessories, gifts and cards.

Owned by Sarah Barrington, the shop is spread over two floors and was a finalist in the 'best newcomer' category for the National Gift Retailer Awards in 2009 after it was founded in 2007. The shop may be small, but it packs a lot in. Downstairs you will find cards and stationery, jewellery, scarves, bags, soaps, as well as gifts for children and babies. Upstairs there is a strong focus on accessories for the home with cushions, throws, rugs and tableware.

Blue Dog stocks items from a selection of good quality suppliers including Portmeiron's Sophie Conran china, La Compagnie de Provence bath products, Blondie Mania's gorgeous leather bags and Terre Rouge baskets, Avoca knitwear and throws, Seasalt scarves and hats, and One Button funky jewellery.

Not wanting to waste space, the staircase is used to display a range of mirrors and prints adding to the shop's relaxed atmosphere. Customers love browsing here and because the stock changes frequently they return often to see what's new. It is open from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm.
