Cornwall's only standard gauge railway that is still operated by steam locomotives can be enjoyed on a leisurely 13 mile round trip, through beautiful Cornish countryside. The Bodmin & Wenford Railway is typical of a branch line in the 1950's and the station at Boscarne junction is even situated on the track bed of one of the first railways in the world.

There is plenty to do whilst enjoying the scenery and finding out more about the history of the steam trains. Close to each of the stations there are souvenir shops, tearooms and pubs as well as a workshop viewing area, with locomotives and rolling stock on display.

The main station is at Bodmin general, where the engine sheds are located as well as a souvenir shop and refreshment room in the restored station buildings. This main station has been beautifully restored to reflect the 1950's and there is a historic Cornish town close by, featuring the shire hall, town museum and jail. On to Boscarne Junction, there is a direct link to the "Camel trail" where there is a recreational footpath and the Camel valley vineyard, which is 15-30 minutes walk from the station. Bodmin Parkway station is on the main rail line from London to Penzance and has a beautiful walk along the old carriage drive to Lanhydrock house, as well as the station café, which is built in the old signal box.

With so much to see and do, the Bodmin & Wenford railway is the perfect day out to experience the history of Cornwall and to enjoy the wonderful scenery that is right on our doorstep. If trains are something that are.s of interest, amongst the resident steam locomotives are 4612, GWR-0-6-0 pannier tans; 5552 and a venerable LSWR 2-4-0 well tank that first saw service in 1874. The line also employs ex- Bagnall saddle tanks, vintage diesels and a wide variety of carriages and wagons.

Along with the regular timetable there are also special events including a murder mystery, steam beer and jazz and even a disco train, which is dedicated to the 60's and 70's. Prices for the railway are £11 for adults and £6 for children, with special rates for senior citizens and families. The prices for the special events also vary depending on what is included.
