Since 1974 the Taw Valley Creamery has been producing
award-winning cheeses in the heart of the Devon countryside,
surrounded by lush green grass and rolling hills. The milk for the
Creamery is collected from more than 700 farms, many of them within
a 30-mile radius, and the cheesemakers put a wealth of experience
and expertise to use in producing the wonderful range of Cheddars,
the Red Leicester and the Double Gloucester that are the mainstay of
the business. They make other branded cheeses, and the shop sells a
selection of prime cheeses from other producers. At the 2010
Nantwich International Cheese Show, The Cheese Company was
awarded UK Supreme Champion for its mature Cheddar as well as
winning a record 34 awards at the same Show.
The Creamery serves the public and also sells its produce to a
large number of shops, delis, hotels, restaurants and pubs
throughout Devon. Visitors come from all over the world to discover
the scenic delights of this glorious part of the country, but no one
should pass through without stopping off at the Taw Valley Creamery
to sample and buy some cheese. The shop, which also sells crackers,
chutneys and other complementary goods, as well as hampers and gift
packs, is located just off the A3072 outside the village of North
Tawton, between Crediton and Okehampton. Shop hours are 9 to 5
Monday to Friday, 9 to 12 Saturday.
