Building on a reputation gained since 1927 for high quality ice cream - made in North Wales to a traditional secret recipe (which comprises 6lbs of "shan't tell you" and "a great deal of love and care") - Cadwaladers Ice Cream Cafe in the shadow of Criccieth Castle has long been a Sunday afternoon treat to savour. As well as delicious ice creams you can enjoy quality coffees, great chocolate drinks, teas, cold drinks, cakes, baguettes and pastries too.Cadwalader's Ice Cream was started by husband and wife team David and Hannah when they built and opened the shop in Castle Street, Criccieth back in 1927. It has since become a mainstay of Criccieth's tourist attractions, but has stretched its wings to encompass its own chain of ice cream cafes and coffee shops, dotted around Wales and over the border. However it's this place that remains the true mecca for Cadwalader's devotees, with many still insisting vanilla remains the crème de la crème of its ice creams. But this doesn't mean there isn't plenty to choose from, including flavours like apricot & brandy, St Clementine, dragon's breath and chocolate pudding. |
