Tenby is a delightful little town with a pretty harbour, historic buildings and town walls that date back to the 13th century. Among the many landmark buildings, pride of place for many is the sunny blue-painted sweet shop called The Jazz. Opened in the 1930s in the old part of town, and for many years owned and run by Will and Marilyn Gardner, this wonderful shop has served generations of local children, families and holidaymakers with an amazing array of sweets and chocolates. The shelves are filled with more than 100 old-style jars containing all the old favourites and many more besides. There are sherbet lemons, wine gums, acid drops, herbal tablets, Lyons fruit salads, aniseed balls, Everton mints, Paynes Army & Navy drops….They also sell a range of sugar-free sweets, including fruit drops, strawberries & cream, Welsh mints – even sugar-free barley sugar! Will has contacts throughout the confectionery world and his suppliers source sweets you’d be hard pressed to find elsewhere. As well as the sweets sold loose from the jar – in old-fashioned paper bags if you like, or gift-wrapped to give as presents The Jazz stocks a wide range of popular sweets and chocolates in bags and bars and boxes. It also sells general supplies, including basic groceries like bread, tea and coffee, soft drinks, newspapers and magazines. If you’re sweet on sweets, The Jazz is definitely the place for you!
