Originally known as the North Wales Theatre, Conference Centre and Arena, Venue Cymru received its new designation following a competition launched in a local newspaper to find a new, shorter and bilingual name. When the complex was officially opened in January 2007 it was described as the beginning of a new era for Entertainment, Conferencing and Events in Llandudno.Throughout the year it hosts a wide range of entertainment featuring many household names. The 2009 season, for example, saw comedians such as Ken Dodd, classical music from the distinguished Prague Symphony Orchestra, straight plays such as Billy Liar, and musicals such as Chicago and Jolson! Verdi's epic opera Aida, the ballet version of Wuthering Heights, and circus from Le Grand Cirque Fantazie were also among the 169 different shows hosted by the venue.A popular amenity at the Venue is the restaurant where pre-show diners can take in the spectacular views of the bay whilst enjoying the finest freshly prepared food. Showgoers can also relax and unwind in the café bar which, in addition to serving alcoholic drinks, also offers a selection of cakes, pastries and coffees. |
