Food, Drink, Accommodation, Hospitality...

The Bee Hotel is at the very heart of life in Abergele. It's a three-storey 18th century white-painted building on a prominent corner site in the centre of town, where the A 547 meets the A548, and a short drive from the A55 main coast road - leave at exit 23a or 24. The Bee has long been a favourite not only with the local community but also with the thousands of tourists who make the journey to the North Wales coast throughout the year. Queen Victoria once dropped in while her horses were being changed on a trip through Wales, and today's visitors are guaranteed a right royal welcome from host Neil Cooper and his team. The Bee's accommodation comprises seven nicely appointed en suite rooms with practical modern furnishings, TV and hot drinks tray. A single, a twin, two doubles and three family rooms make this an excellent base for a wide cross-section of guests, from single people on business to holidaying couples and families with children.

The proximity of beaches at Pensarn and Rhyl and the North Wales Coast Path make the Bee an excellent choice for a traditional seaside holiday. In the bar, with its handsome panelled service counter, a selection of award-winning real ales is on tap throughout the long opening hours, along with other draught and bottled beers, wines, spirits and non-alcoholic drinks. The large enclosed beer garden with its safe play area is a popular spot in the summer months, and the hotel has plenty of free parking for customers. Food is an important part of the Bee's business, starting with a multi-choice breakfast and including snacks, light meals, daily specials, a full à la carte menu, Sunday roasts and regular themed evenings. The resident chef makes fine use of seasonal Welsh produce, and main courses, including popular home-made pies, are served with super `real' chips. A fine choice of some 40 wines accompanies a meal (no food on Wednesdays).

The Bee has long been at the heart of social life in Abergele, a veritable hive of activity. Thursday is quiz night, Friday sees karaoke and dancing and Saturday brings live entertainment from top local performers; a resident DJ presides on music nights. The Bee also fields pool and darts teams in the local leagues. Abergele, a joint resort with Pensarn, is a popular destination for a seaside holiday, quieter than its larger and better-known neighbours Colwyn Bay and Rhyl. And for anyone seeking a friendly, relaxed, well-run place to stay the Bee is definitely the place to head for.
