The Rose & Crown is a splendid country pub with a friendly host and cheerful, hardworking staff. The welcoming atmosphere, the traditional ambience, the quality of the food and the cellar attract drinkers and diners from all over the region. The owners are committed to environmental sustainability,green tourism, promoting the local environment, resources and community and have earned thre enviromental awards in the last 18 months, GTBS - silver and TSE, Tourism South East - highly commended and Kent Environment business of the year 2009.

The main part of the inn dates back to the 16th century, and the whole place has a particularly inviting ambience assisted by beams, inglenooks, hop bines and comfortably cushioned seats. The old skittle alley, which is now a dining area, is home to a collection of old farm tools, corn dollies and farming paraphernalia.

The chef seeks out the best local produce for his menus of traditional country food, and drinks include well-kept real ales and an extensive wine list with many available by the glass. The Pub has an award-winning cottagey garden, and the setting, within the beautiful 150-acre Perry Wood, is ideal for walking, rambling and cycling.

A network of paths links notable local landmarks like the site of old Shottenden Mill, Iron Age earthworks and the famous Pulpit standing 500 feet above sea level and affording terrific views. The Pub can be reached from the M2 (J7) through Selling, or from the A251 (leave at Sheldwich) or the A252 (leave at Chilham).
