WWT Martin Mere is one of nine Wildfowl
& Wetlands Centres run by the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT), a UK registered
charity. Visit WWT Martin Mere and come in close contact with wetlands and their wildlife.
You can feed some of the birds straight from your hand. Special events and exhibitions help to
give an insight into the wonder of wetlands and
the vital need for their conservation.
People of all ages and abilities will enjoy exploring the carefully planned pathways.
You can go on a journey around the world, from the Australian Riverway, through the South American
Lake, to the Oriental Pen with its Japanese gateway,
observing a multitude of exotic ducks, geese, swans and
flamingos along the way. In winter, WWT Martin Mere plays host
to thousands of pink-footed geese, whooper and
Bewick's swans and much more. Visitors can see swans
under floodlight most winter evenings.
Covering 150 hectares, the reserve (one of
Britain's most important wetland sites) is designated a
Ramsar Site and SSSI for its wealth of rare wetland plants.
The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust is the
largest international wetland conservation charity in the
UK. WWT's mission is to conserve wetlands and
their biodiversity. These are vitally important for the
quality and maintenance of all life. WWT operates nine
visitor centres in the UK, bringing people closer to wildlife
and providing a fun day out for all the family.
