Located in one of the most picturesque corners of the country, Glassdrumman Lodge offers the unique combination of a relaxing home-from-home environment with all the amenities of a 5-star hotel. Graeme and Joan Hall arrived at this rural haven more than 20 years ago to bring up their family away from the stresses of urban life. They progressed from producing organic vegetables and herbs, to retailing home-made breads, pies, cheeses, hand-reared meat and poultry. The next step was offering wholesome meals served in the front parlour, and the logical conclusion of the sequence was to open their doors as a fully-fledged country house hotel and restaurant.

With its beamed ceilings, comfy chairs, crackling log fires, thick carpets and superb views, a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere pervades the house. Dining here is a special pleasure with dishes based on fresh produce from the garden, fresh fish from Kilkeel harbour, and fresh oysters purchased daily from Dundrum Bay. Guests have the choice of joining a communal meal around a 20ft pine table, or at their own private table. Special diets can be catered for. To complement your meal, there's an extensive, carefully chosen wine list, and after dinner, arrange of liqueurs are available in the drawing room. Service is excellent, not just in the restaurant, but also in the 24-hour cosseting that gets shoes cleaned and cars washed overnight. The accommodation at Glassdrumman maintains the same high standards all of the 10 well-appointed guest bedrooms (including two suites) have en suite facilities, direct dial telephone, satellite colour TV, hospitality tray, hair-dryer and an overnight laundry service. Non-smoking rooms are available. Children are welcome at Glassdrumman, with a baby-sitting service available, and dogs too are welcome by arrangement.

Visitors will find plenty to see and do in the area. For anglers there's a 1-acre fly fishing lake at the bottom of the garden, while for golfers the Hall family will be happy to arrange golf at the famous Royal County Down Golf Course is just 15 minutes away. Horse-riding is also available nearby and visitor attractions within easy reach include Rowallan Gardens, Mount Stewart, Strongford Lough and the world class Ulster Folk & Transport Museum.
