Occupying the 4-acre site of a former linen mill, the Old Green Home & Garden Centre
offers an extraordinarily comprehensive range of items for house and garden.
The centre is run by Mervyn and Helen Moon, who already own and manage a
successful wholesale business on the same site, Rathkenny Ceramics and Moon
Lighting. The Old Green has many unusual features, reflecting the owners' wish
to create a family garden centre of excellence, built on quality and service.
It
stocks wide selections of plants, shrubs and trees many of them grown in the
on-site nursery. You'll find a huge choice of popular and new varieties of
plants, shrubs and trees, especially roses, fruit trees, garden trees and pond
plants. There's a 5000sq. ft. glazed plant display area, while a second glazed
gallery of the same size is dedicated to classical statues, figurines and garden
ornaments. This is believed to be one of the largest such displays in the whole
of the UK and Ireland. The huge selection includes many life-size and near
life-size classical figure statues of Italian design suitable for commercial and
public settings, as well as ornamental classical fountains in many sizes and
designs. Also on display are numerous smaller figurines and ornaments suitable
for interior, patio and small garden decoration.
If you are looking for a gift for a gardening enthusiast, check out the gift
shop which stocks an enormous selection that includes a wide range of tools from
reputable makers at competitive prices, bird care products, pots in stoneware,
ceramic and terracotta, and a selection of Japanese lanterns in a range of
designs and sizes.
Children
are also well-provided for here, with a Play Area, House of Dolls (with a full
stock of beautiful dolls available to purchase) and a Gypsy Caravan. The outside
play area, with its swings, climbing structures and childrens' houses is
designed to allow children to play in safety.
Whie here visit their licensed restaurant, Rose Cottage, an old traditional
Irish cottage situated within the garden centre. Rose Cottage is finished inside
with rustic stonework and pine beams and the open fire burns when the season
requires it! All the food served here is home baked and they have won `The Taste
of Ulster Award'.The restaurant is also available in the evenings for function
bookings.
