The Silk Mill, Derby's Museum of Industry and History, is on the site of the world's oldest factories, the Silk Mills, built by George Sorocold in 1702 and 1717. The foundations and parts of the tower from the 1717 mill are still visible. The displays in the Mill tell the story of Derby's industrial heritage and achievements, and of its people. There is a special emphasis on the development of Rolls- Royce aero engines and the railway industry.
